Originally from Asia, this tree with gray-brown bark is very small, dark green leaves and flowers in small groups at the ends of branches. The fruit is a green ovoid cone and brown at maturity with scales clasping. These large pyramidal and evergreen trees were dedicated to Pluto, God of the empire of the dead; which explains its frequent presence in cemeteries.
